How Does China Sword Affect Allied Waste’s Diversion Rates?

February 25, 2020 by Michelle Leave a Comment

VIDEO. Allied Waste presents to the Half Moon Bay City Council 2/18/2020.

High level discussion on the world economy of garbage and how it affects Allied Waste, and us.

How will it affect our rates?

Diversion rates are changing and there is a change of materials, over last 10-15 years.

  • iPad eliminated, for all intents and purposes, newspaper from recycling stream.
  • Design of materials/ packaging like Campbell soup cans used to have a market to sell to in Asia. Now, soups packed in tetra packs can’t be recovered. Single use plastic and packaging is making things harder.
  • China 40% of recycle for the world. Mixed paper down 95 %  but 30-40% is being recover from Allied customers.
  • Commodity pricing on mixed paper 80-90% down and 70% down for cardboard.
