General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020
RECOMMENDATION: By motion: 1) adopt a resolution calling for the holding of a General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the election of certain officers; and 2) adopt a resolution requesting the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo to consolidate a General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, and authorizing the City Manager to enter into a service agreement for the provision of election services.
FISCAL IMPACT: The San Mateo County Elections Office estimate for the November General Municipal Election is approximately $45,000. An additional $5,000 is required for advertising, translation services, and printing of election manuals and other candidate materials. If any measures are added, they would be added at roughly $10,000 per measure.
DISCUSSION: There are two City Council seats (District 2 and District 3) available in the November 3, 2020 election. The nomination period for candidates opens Monday, July 13, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. and ends Friday, August 7, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. City Hall operating hours will determine the local filing deadlines in Half Moon Bay (Friday closures). If an incumbent does not file nomination papers within that timeframe, the deadline is extended to August 12, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
