Who Are the Half Moon Bay Lions?

Lions Club International is the world’s largest service club organization.  There are over 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200  countries around the world.  This year, Lions Club International is celebrating it’s 104th Year in existence.

The Half Moon Bay Lions Club is celebrating our 74th year.  This coastside club was founded January 16, 1947.  The Lions Club motto is “We Serve” as well as “Where there is a need there is a Lion”.  One of the purposes of the Lions is to “Encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward”.

The Pumpkin Festival

The Pumpkin Festival brings over 50,000 people to our little Coastside community every October. Our burgers and barbecued corn-on-the-cob kept them well fed. The HMB High School Cross-Country and girls basketball teams or other teams work with us and share in the profits from the event. Thanks to everyone who participates and/or purchases something from our booth!

The Lions Club raises money in variety of ways.  We grill burgers and cook corn on the cob at the Pumpkin Fesival, we hosted the Sportmen’s Dinner at the IDES Hall, and we host the parade and pancake breakfast on the 4th of July.  We serve the community in a variety of ways as well, such as collecting used glasses and repurposing them for those in need, help test the eyes of grade school children, with Rebuilding Together, and help the Second Harvest Food Bank along with St. Vincent de Paul to provide food for those in need on the coast.

We give back to the the community in may ways.

We donate funds to many different organizations on the coast.

Some of which are:

  • High School Sports teams
  • Coastside Hockey
  • 4H & FFA
  • High School Grad night
  • HMB Little League
  • Kases for kids
  • Relay for Life
  • Coastside Hope
  • Senior Center
  • Student Speaker Contest
  • Canine companions for Independence
  • High School College Scholarships
