What if? Talking About Libraries

October 27, 2015 by Deborah Harter Williams

As the Coastside contemplates a new library there are many things to consider and discuss. What is a library? A place? The books themselves? An online presence? A digital delivery service? A bookmobile?Or anywhere a librarian works magic? Librarians, in my book, are Ninjas of Knowledge. They perform with remarkable agility and sometimes force to bring learning, entertainment and enlightenment to all who would partake.

One ancient library billed itself as a “Clinic of the Soul.”

The current library was built in 1971 and in 2006 had almost 200,000 visitors. What will it take to build this new one to last 45 years?

How can we build in possibilities for the future?

Other Things to talk about – Alberto Manguel’s article in the October 23rd issue of the New York Times called Reinventing the Library.  He is an Argentine-born Canadian author whose new book is  Curiosity.
