First dubbed San Benito and then “Spanishtown,” Half Moon Bay is a coastside town with a long and intriguing story.

"The Coburn Mystery: Northern California's Unsolved Murder" by June Morrall

Loren Coburn was disliked by his neighbors for his personality and business dealings. His widow Sarah was found murdered in her bed in 1919. The murder was never solved. Book traces Coburn family history and the history of Pescadero.

The town developed around one historic house still in existence, and remodeled into a warm and picturesque bed and breakfast inn. This historic building was built by a famous figure, Mr. Zaballa, the town s first merchant, savvy in developing real estate, and deeply involved in the layout of the streets and blocks that are today s downtown business district
