VOTE for our HMB Coastside Farmers’ Market to get State and National Recognition (and Cash!)

September 18th, 2023

The 2023 America’s Farmers Market Celebration

Please VOTE for our Half Moon Bay Coastside Farmers’ Market as your favorite market.

It’s an opportunity for our little market to get State and National recognition plus and cash prize!

DEADLINE September 18th, 2023, the 15th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration (AFMC) showcases the essential markets across the nation making a difference for farmers, ranchers, and communities.

During this time, market shoppers and supporters can vote for their favorite market by visiting markets.farmland.org. In addition to recognizing the top markets in each region of America, the AFMC will crown an overall “People’s Choice” winner as the top-endorsed market in the country.

We believe that every farmers market in America is special in its own way. Big or small, in cities or rural towns, farmers markets nourish their communities while helping local farmers, food makers, and artisans thrive. While the AFMC does rank America’s favorite markets, our intention is to lift up the vital role farmers markets play across the country. The AFMC database and interactive map on markets.farmland.org is the largest and most comprehensive listing of farmers markets in the United States, containing more than 7,000 listings and allowing anyone in America to find local farmers markets wherever they live or visit.

To recognize America’s favorite farmers markets, this year, we are pleased to announce that total cash prizes have increased to $15,000 and that the top five markets in the United States that finish in the “People’s Choice” category will receive an award.

The breakdown of prize money is as follows: $5,000 for first, $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third, $750 for fourth, $250 for fifth, and $100 for 1st in each state. These funds will be awarded to markets to go towards marketing, communications, and other needs that help expand the market’s reach and impact.

American Farmland Trust

American Farmland Trust is the only national organization that takes a holistic approach to agriculture, focusing on the land itself, the agricultural practices used on that land, and the farmers and ranchers who do the work. AFT launched the conservation agriculture movement and continues to raise public awareness through our No Farms No Food® message.

Since our founding in 1980, AFT has helped permanently protect over 6.5 million acres of agricultural lands, advanced environmentally sound farming practices on millions of additional acres, and supported thousands of farm families.

For over a decade, AFT’s America’s Farmers Market Celebration has highlighted the important role farmers markets play in communities across the nation. Long pillars of local food in urban centers and town squares, in the age of coronavirus, farmers markets have gained the recognition they deserve as essential businesses ensuring farmers have a venue to sell their goods and families have a place to access fresh, healthy food.

Farmers Market Coalition

The Farmers Market Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening farmers markets across the United States so that they can serve as community assets while providing real income opportunities for farmers.

The Farmers Market Coalition is driven by three complementary goals. We call it our triple bottom line. Farmers earn fair prices for the fruits of their labor by selling directly to consumers. Consumers gain access to fresh, nutritious, local produce. Communities regain a figurative “town square,” experiencing the many positive outcomes of foot traffic and animated public space.
