Pick your own chestnuts at this historic orchard! Skyline Chestnuts is a 20-acre orchard sitting at an elevation of about 2,500 feet above Palo Alto in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The Skyline Chestnut Orchard was originally planted over 100, and perhaps as long as 150 years ago. Shortly after California was acquired by the United States in 1847, a Spanish settler moved up into the mountains where he planted the oldest of the trees growing there today.

Every season is a little different so be sure to check the website for dates and recommended times to pick.

10/30/2020.  We’re open! Come on up (and bring a mask)! The wind knocked a bunch of chestnuts out of the trees, which is great, but it’s not a clear indication of how much will be there this weekend. There’s plenty to pick up right now. See the graph? It’s meant to convey that the harvest doesn’t come in all at once on opening weekend. It ramps up, and then it trickles off. So, it’s always a great idea to check back here for the latest update before driving up. That’s especially true this year since we don’t know yet how the smoke may have affected the crop. Please read the additional details in comments below.

“Do not touch us!

10/29/2020. A Request from Our Trees: “Do not touch us!” Here’s why: The little bumps you see up each branch just above the clustImage may contain: food, text that says 'Chestnuts Available for Harvest 1st 2nd 3d 4th 5th 6th Week We're Open'er of chestnut burrs will grow into next year’s crop. Unless they are damaged. We are mentioning this because there are a lot of chestnuts on low branches right now. When people hit or pick f’rom the branches, they are hurting the tree and reducing next year’s crop. The trees are not to be touched. If you see someone hitting branches or stripping chestnuts from a tree, please ask them to stop if you are comfortable doing so. Please also consider taking a photo and showing it to us. We need your help!
“Do not touch us!
10/3/2020.   Skyline Chestnuts will be opening on October 17th for the 2020 chestnut season…
Please be advised that this past growing season has been hard with drought and then a nearby major forest fire. As a result, the crop this year may not be as large or as many as in previous years. Your understanding is appreciated
8/24/2020.    There have been many visits to this page in the past week due to the fires raging in our community. The Chestnut Orchard is safe. We are under evacuation orders but the fire lines are a couple of miles away and do not appear to be getting any closer. Hopefully the weather will not bring any more lightning to the Sabnta Cruz Mountains (or California for that matter) and we will not have any new fires starting.
Please keep those affected in your prayers. I have many, many friends who have suffered devastating losses from this tragedy. Please keep them in your thoughts.
