Brews & Views welcomes Deputy Fire Marshal with CAL FIRE/Coastside Jordan Motta, UC Master Gardeners Cynthia Nations, Alison Williams, and Stephanie Erskine for a discussion about living in the Wildland Urban Interface, Defensible Space, and Home Hardening.

The Coastside is located in the Wildland-urban interface; a zone of transition between wilderness and land developed by human activity – an area where a built environment meets or intermingles with a natural environment. Human settlements in the WUI are at a greater risk of catastrophic wildfire. Hear from Deputy Fire Marshal Motta and UC Master Gardeners on current research-based information for sustainable landscape practices, as well as how we can protect our homes, businesses, and community.

Jordan Motta, Deputy Fire Marshal with CAL FIRE/Coastside Fire

Jordan Motta is a Deputy Fire Marshal with CAL FIRE/Coastside Fire and has been with the department since 2009. In his tenure with the Department he has served many roles across the State including Firefighter Paramedic, Engineer Paramedic and Captain. Jordan has responded to the states largest and most devastating fires including the Central LNU Complex in 2017, the Creek Fire in Fresno County, and the Dixie Fire in 2021. For the last several years he has been a certified Public Information Officer and has been deployed with CAL FIRE’s Incident Management Teams.
