Imagine you confront your enemy—a giant, scary robot from outer space—and he becomes your best pal.
A heart-warming, family-friendly animated feature set during the Cold War in 1957, The Iron Giant centers on a young boy named Hogarth Hughes, who discovers and befriends a giant alien robot. The extraterrestrial’s presence unleashes a wave of Cold War paranoia that threatens to engulf the peaceful town of Rockwell, Maine, but with the help of a beatnik artist named Dean McCoppin, Hogarth attempts to prevent the U.S. military and a paranoid federal agent from finding and destroying the huge, gentle robot.
The Iron Giant was directed by Brad Bird and based on a 1968 children’s book by Ted Hughes.
