Youth Speak Out

Our local LGBTQ+ youth tell their stories of coming out, surviving, and thriving on the coastside, and share their ideas for making it a more welcoming place.

Christopher Childers

A professional dancer and actor who has worked with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Prince, and Paula Abdul, Childers has appeared in many feature films. He most recently co-wrote and choreographed the film “Carnival of Wonders,” filmed here in HMB.

Jennifer Grais

A graduate of The Foundation for Shamanic Studies, Grais is also a professional singer who uses her voice in her sound-and-energy healing practice. With her husband, Michael Grais, she co-wrote a teen fiction novel , Christa’s Luck, The story of a girl, her horse, and the last wild mustangs.

John Lester

A Bay Area singer-songwriter, Lester has performed with a diverse group of country, folk, and jazz artists, as well as punk rock’s poet laureate, Patti Smith. His song “The Beautiful Princess of Never Come True” is a wish for a more open, accepting, and loving world where a boy is free to be a princess.

Skip The Needle

The Oakland-based quartet features Vicki Randle, Katie Cash, Shelley Doty, and Kofy Brown. The female powerhouse features politically astute hard rock/funk songcraft, reflecting their deeply-held ideals and wide-ranging musical aesthetic.

Leah Walters

A Bay Area-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Walters has a distinctive and powerful voice, which she uses as the central instrument in her songwriting. She is also known for her work as co-creator of the musical project and SF Bay Area favorite, L&K.
