September 21st, 2023 @ 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Brews & Views welcomes Cabrillo Unified School District’s Board President Sophia Layne Superintendent Sean McPhetridge, and Brookwood Advisors Allan Katz and Chris White for a discussion about CUSD’s mission, vision, and strategies, including a preview of Cabrillo Unified School District’s current design of 60 rental townhomes and apartments for faculty and staff in Half Moon Bay.

Alan Katz and Chris White of Brookwood Advisors have extensive experience working with California school districts and other institutions to develop their surplus and underutilized properties into workforce housing and other beneficial uses, including the recently completed 122-unit 705 Serramonte Blvd project in Daly City for faculty and staff of the Jefferson Union High School District.

  • Despite a large influx of emergency funding during the pandemic, California’s public schools continue to face higher demands including inadequate funding, workforce shortages, and housing.
  • CUSD has begun a strategic planning process to continuously improve outcomes for students.
  • CUSD’s strategic plan is focused on continuous academic improvement, educational equity, supporting the ‘whole child’, and achieving sustainability.
  • CUSD’s strategic plan includes exploring opportunities to develop and offer housing to support their employees and their families, and to attract and retain a diverse and highly qualified workforce.
