THE 50

PRESENTED BY: TDB FAMILY FOUNDATION

IT AIN’T OVER

CLOSING NIGHT, FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH SPECIAL APPEARANCE AND RECEPTION SPONSORED BY PALERMO PROPERTIES TEAM COMPASS: KIRSTEN HAGEN, STEPHANIE SILLS AND GRETA SIEGLOCK

Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra is one of baseball’s greatest. He amassed ten World Series rings, 3 MVP awards and 18 All-Star Game appearances. He caught the only perfect game in World Series history. Yet for many his deserved stature was overshadowed by his simply being himself and being recognized more for his unique personality, TV commercial appearances and unforgettable “Yogi-isms,” initially head-scratching philosophical nuggets that make a lot more sense the more you think about them. In telling the whole story, It Ain’t Over gives Berra his due in following the life of a savvy, commanding, bad-ball hitting catcher with a squat frame but also a D-Day veteran, loving husband and father and, yes, product endorser and originator (mostly) of his own brand of proverbs now ingrained into everyday life.

COMMON GROUND

FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH SPECIAL GUESTS

Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.

SOUL OF THE OCEAN

FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH THE FILMMAKERS

“In these waters lies a complex world… a natural realm built on relationships. It’s an ancient system of give-and-take… where communities of life cooperate. The diversity of creatures here is dazzling. And everyone must play their part to maintain the delicate balance. Take a deep breath and discover… the Soul of the Ocean.”

GRANNY’S GONE WILD

FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH SPECIAL GUESTS

The World’s Oldest Comedienne, Lynn Ruth Miller, is the subject of Granny’s Gone Wild, a documentary from Latest’s Bill Smith. This ribald and riotous romp follows the poster girl for growing old disgracefully – and her adoring young fans – as she shows us how to live life to the full whatever your age.

BIRTH OF THE ENDLESS SUMMER

FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH SPECIAL GUESTS FROM THE FILM

Birth of The Endless Summer follows Californian surf pioneer Dick Metz as he vagabonds the globe from 1958 to 1961. Metz’s train-jumping, steamship-hopping tour, in the vein of On the Road and The Motorcycle Diaries, led to Metz’s discovery of “the perfect wave” at Cape St. Francis, South Africa. Dick’s travels not only inspired his friend, Bruce Brown, but also paved the way for The Endless Summer to become a reality. Birth of The Endless Summer follows the 90-year old Metz back to South Africa to retrace the steps of his original journey.

WITH PETER BRADLEY

FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH SPECIAL GUESTS FROM THE FILM

79 years old and overlooked since the 1970s, abstract painter Peter Bradley reflects on life and shares his artistic process on the cusp of his rediscovery.

PHILHARMONIC FANTASTIQUE

FOLLOWED BY A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AND INSTRUMENT INTRODUCTION BY THE COASTSIDE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Philharmonic Fantastique: The Making of the Orchestra is a 25-minute multi-media concerto from Mason Bates, composer of the Grammy Award-winning opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, in collaboration with Oscar-winning director and sound designer Gary Rydstrom, and animation director Jim Capobianco. The animated film flies through the instruments of the orchestra to explore the fundamental connections between music, sound, performance, creativity and technology. The soundtrack won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Classical. Including the Coastside Chamber Orchestra who will come and offer a petting zoo for their instruments.
