Has the county cannabis ordinance has incentivized coastside property owners to sell at inflated prices?
Robert Brownstone, of the City Council for City of Half Moon Bay, at the very end of a very long city council meeting, at almost 11:30pm, 10/15/19, had the presence of mind to ask for someone from San Mateo County to come out and explain their intention with their cannabis ordinance, and respond to the fall-out of 300 local farm workers being fired with little to no warning, or preparation.
Now, the City is willing to advocate to the county on behalf of people who live here.
The next meeting is Tuesday, 11/5/19 @ 7:00pm @ Ted Adcock.
Nobuo Higaki founded Bay City Flowers in 1910, in Redwood City. They moved to Half Moon Bay in 1959. Harry Higaki was Farmer of the Year in 1998, and Harrison Higaki in 2012.
The current situation has nothing to do with the arguments of whether cannabis is good or bad, impact on kids, etc. – it’s purely a job thing. And a social justice thing. These are the people who can least afford to lose their jobs. They also lose their healthcare – so that’s another burden the county has to take up as a result. Cabrillo Unified School District loses enrollment when parents are forced to move their families out of the area – and that hurts the school district, and the kids.
The problem continues.
