CalTrans Engineering and Traffic Study Report 12/10/2014

What happened to these plans?

It even included a summary of Project Cost Estimates from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA), as the Implementing Agency, has prepared this Final Preliminary Planning Study (PPS) to evaluate the feasibility of projects and alternatives identified in the Highway 1 Safety and Mobility Improvement Study to relieve congestion, improve throughput, and enhance safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians along a 7-mile-stretch of Highway 1 in San Mateo County, CA. SMCTA has prepared this Final PPS in collaboration with the San Mateo County Department of Planning and Building (Sponsor). The projects covered by the Final PPS are located in unincorporated San Mateo County in the Midcoast area, which stretches from Devil’s Slide south to Mirada Road in Miramar, CA (see Attachment A). The types of improvements proposed for this section of Highway 1 include designated pedestrian crossings, left-turn lanes, acceleration lanes, and raised medians.

The improvements, from Mirada to Gray Whale Cove, were grouped as Mirada, Moss Beach, Montara and Gray Whale Cove (from south to north). Where data was available, cost estimates are included.

Well, traffic lights were about 20% of the cost of roundabouts when DKS did the Cypress analysis in 2017.
And note that the County now wants to charge US RESIDENTS the bulk of the costs of their $60m dis-Connect the coastside plan.
We’ll have more on roundabouts and the entire new CTMP plan in subsequent weeks….

Having grown up with roundabouts (on foreign soil) I’m actually really excited they are coming, especially at 92/35 intersection. It’s the best of both worlds; continued flow of traffic, protected turns
