BPAC Chair, Mario Rendon, introduces the agenda item and Maziar Bozorginia, Interim Public Works Director, presents a Grant Update for BPAC-related Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The grant has no been kicked down to the County level where it will get another chance.

HMB City Engineer, Maz Bozorginia, and Denice Hutten, Associate Engineer, present the Ruisseau Francais/Highway 1 Improvements Eastside Parallel Trail South Project overview.

From the beginning of the agenda item, Denice explains how the grant funding works and leads into the Ruisseau Francais Highway 1 improvements.

The Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)

 

The Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) consists of seven Half Moon Bay citizens who advise the City Council, Planning Commission, and the Parks and Recreation Commission. In the past, the Committee addressed the development, maintenance, and implementation of the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan and the Bicycle and Pedestrian Design Guidelines.  As part of implementation of the City’s General Plan Complete Streets Policy, BPAC provides advice about circulation system improvements and programs to encourage cycling and walking as a means of transportation and recreation.

Committee members are appointed by the City Council and represent the diversity of perspectives in the community necessary for full representation, including: Two walking enthusiasts, one commuter-cyclist, one senior representative, one youth representative, and a representative for the Cabrillo Unified School District (appointed by the District).

It’s unfortunate that the state was unable to fund the East Side Parallel Trail from Higgins to Moonridge. This trail would be an integral piece of pedestrian/bike access for those who commute from the South end of town into work and would represent an important step in moving towards access and transportation equity on the Coastside. Luckily, it sounds as if the project will get a second chance locally, when the SMCTA will take a look at it during their meeting on 12/1. Please show your support for this important project by emailing Supervisor Don Horsely – DHorsley@smcgov.org – before the 12/1 meeting – tell him you support SMCTA grant funding for the East Side Parallel Trail: Higgins to Moonridge segment.

Update: the South portion of the trail (Higgins to Moonridge) would actually be funded by a different agency (MTC) so the 12/1 meeting will be looking at funding for the East Side Trail North to Rocket Farms only. More soon…
