Local Students Natalie Handel and Sophie Mateja Appointed to San Mateo County’s Youth Commission for 2022/2023

July 27, 2022 by Michelle Leave a Comment

AGENDA. From the San Mateo County Supervisors‘ meeting on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 at 9:00am by Zoom.

Recommendation for the appointment of 26 youth to the Youth Commission, each for a term ending June 30, 2023.

The San Mateo County Youth Commission (note this webpage has not been updated, yet) was established in 1993 and created to address issues affecting youth in San Mateo County as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors. In this role, the Youth Commission strives to close the gap between adult and youth perspectives, increase awareness of and advocate on behalf of youth issues, present policy recommendations and lead projects that serve the community.

The Commission consists of up to 27 members, between the ages of 13-20, who reside and attend school in San Mateo County.

Funded by the County Manager’s Office, reporting to the Board of Supervisors, and housed under the Budget, Policy, and Performance Office, the Commission is a collaborative effort of all three San Mateo County serving entities.

The Board of Supervisors is responsible for appointing new members to the Youth Commission, based on interviews with applicants. Youth Commissioners are appointed to one-year terms of office that will end June 30, 2023. Youth Commissioners may serve up to four terms until the age of 21.
