Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation Commission Agendas
The Parks and Recreation Commission advises the City Council on the full range of issues around our community’s parks, playing fields, recreation programming, and a variety of special events provided to the community.
Cameras are not the answer. Invasion of privacy. With facial recognition, network storage, drones, and Ring/Nest products, video cameras everywhere are destroying any last semblance of privacy. And for what benefit? Peace of mind? Maybe, maybe not. How many people have been arrested and convicted because of Nest camera footage of an act of porch piracy? Video cameras are lazy, invasive, and not all that effective of a deterrent. Yet another social rubicon we have blown past without a second thought for the supposed benefits of security and of course, profit–never again to regain what was lost: our privacy and dignity.
