There are several Half Moon Bay commissions and committees, which are comprised of appointed local individuals with a great interest in helping the City to maintain and enhance the entire community’s quality of life. The role of a City commission or committee is generally to analyze and discuss specific issues and provide advice and/or recommendations to the City Council.

The Planning Commission makes decisions or advises the City Council on land use and property development issues, in keeping with the City’s Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance,General Plan and Local Coastal Plan, State laws, and other public policies.

The Parks and Recreation Commission advises the City Council on the full range of issues around our community’s parks, playing fields, recreation programming, and a variety of special events provided to the community.

Other Committees to Think About; No Openings at Moment.

The General Plan Advisory Committee provides input relating to the City’s General Plan, Local Coastal Program, and Zoning Code updates, offering a balanced range of perspectives, serving as an information conduit to stakeholder groups, encouraging community participation, and providing continuity of participation throughout the entire public visioning and update process.

The Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee advises the City Council, Planning Commission, and Parks and Recreation Commission regarding the City’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan and Guidelines, including suggesting circulation system improvements and programs to encourage cycling and walking as a means of transportation and recreation.

The Architectural Advisory Committee (new as of July, 2019) provides early review of projects before they advance to the Planning Commission or Community Development Director for public hearings. The Committee primarily considers mixed-use, multi-family, and non-residential proposals as well as City projects such as streetscapes and new facilities.

The Main Street Bridge Advisory Committee advise the City Council on the design and construction of the Main Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project, including serving as a community “sounding board” and assisting the City Council and staff in helping define the public education and outreach program for this project.
