Between Half Moon Bay and Pescadero, there is a 1-mile stretch of beach that has been known to many Bay Area residents as a local treasure for surfers, fishermen and recreational users. Starting in the mid 2010s, large-scale campouts and parties began causing environmental and safety issues.  In 2017 Peninsula Open Space Trust bought 58 acres of private bluff fronting Tunitas Creek Beach and transferred this land to San Mateo County Parks. Since then, San Mateo County Parks, POST and many community stakeholders have been working to draft plans that incorporate a variety of community needs into a park design that will provide space for the diverse people, plants and animals of our area.

In this 1-hour webinar, you’ll learn about the human and ecological history of this beautiful beach, hear the story of how this beach was protected by POST, and preview the latest designs for California’s newest beach park. We will be joined by Stewardship Project Manager Taylor Jang of Peninsula Open Space Trust and County Park Ranger Katherine Wright of San Mateo County Parks, who will share about the site’s natural history, protection, and development as a new public open space.

This event is part of POST’s community event series, which is open to the general public as well as POST donors. We hope you’ll join us! We also curate a separate series of private events for our donors. Learn how you can support POST here: openspacetrust.org/support-post
