POSTPONED. Midcoast. Want to Stop Caltrans Variable Message Signs? HMB Stopped 4 out of 5 VMS with Public Comment

May 25th, 2022 @ 9:00am - 12:00pm

Stay tuned for the next meeting date…

San Mateo County Supervisor Horsley‘s Legislative Aide, Lena Silberman, reports.

There was a miscommunication between Caltrans and San Mateo County Planning.

SMCo Planning Staff are recommending denial of the project to the SMCo Planning Commission for a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) approval. Caltrans wants time to respond to that denial.

Write in to San Mateo County Planner, Michael Schaller, mschaller@smcgov.org, and let him know how you feel.

NOTE. Half Moon Bay City Council and the public told Caltrans that they did not want VMS signs. They saw VMS as a visual blight.

Gregg Dieguez (InPerspective) weighs in:

Is Caltrans Planning The Right Things for the MidCoast?

The use of smcalert.org, Waze, Google maps, Nextdoor have been working better since PSPS (Public Safety Planned Shutoffs).

Additionally, the current Caltrans VMS messaging for the Devil’s Slide Cliff Restoration project in Half Moon Bay has had the dates of construction wrong twice. At the same time it was nowhere on their website. Today this misinformation is inconvenient, but in an emergency evacuation it would be dangerous.
