Local educator Bob Pinto will discuss the manufacture of tools by Indigenous people of western North America—their use of natural resources, and their art.

Half Moon Bay History Association

We bring together all members of the community to preserve, celebrate, and share the history of the San Mateo Coastside.

We hold free speaker events on local history topics, provide an education program to all schools in the area, and record oral histories to preserve the stories of the coast.  If you have questions about Coastside history, contact our research team.

The Coastside History Museum is in the Jail at 505 Johnston St.  The museum is currently open weekends from 11am-3pm.   Some additional days depending on docent availability.

We offer Coastside history videos to students, teachers and history buffs, and serve as a resource for anyone with questions about the history of this unique region. We are about to start construction of our Coastside History Museum in the old barn behind the jail. We welcome new members, and donations to support our programs.  We very much rely on volunteers as docents, for research, and our other activities; more details here.

The Founder and Board Members of the Half Moon Bay History Association, City Council  Members, and City staff attended the ground breaking ceremony on July 8, 2021.

The construction of our new history museum behind the old jail is  complete.  The new exhibits are being fabricated, with installation planned in April 2023. See photos of the progress.

A new interior has been built inside the old garage (“barn”) structure, maintaining the historic appearance and most of the structural components of the c. 1926 building, as well as the newer foundation.

The new museum was built meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, and includes solar panels, backup battery and LED lighting.
