HMB History Association Presents ~ Native American Lifeways of the Half Moon Bay Area and San Francisco Peninsula with Mark Hylkema

October 18th, 2022 @ 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Senior Coastsiders Newsletter, The Beacon.

At the time of first European contact, the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas were home to fifty tribes, each with its own territories and dialects.

Today we refer to these tribes collectively as the Ohlone people.

Their ancestral past spans many thousands of years, and reaches back to the Ice Age.

This presentation will review ancestral indigenous lifeways and their historic persistence through the early Spanish colonial period to today. Speaker Mark Hylkema is the Santa Cruz District Cultural Resources Program Manager for California State Parks.

He has 42 years experience in California archaeology, Native American culture, and history of the Spanish Colonial period.

Tuesday, October 18, 2022 doors open at 5:30PM and program begins at 6:00PM. (Image by Mark Hylkema).
