The Mission is published by Berkeley nonprofit Heyday Books, in collaboration with the Precita Eyes Muralists Association. “The Mission” brings the neighborhood to life in vivid colors that pop off the page. The book’s many murals act as portals into people’s lives by depicting a community at work and play, showcasing religious themes, and chronicling the struggles of immigrants and activists. The murals are everywhere in the densely populated neighborhood adorning restaurants, shops, garages and alleys. Some gorgeous old Victorians are made all the more fanciful by paintings that snake their way across facades.
