One of the goals of CERT training is to give you knowledge and ‘tools for your tool box’ to deal with challenging situations, as well as a process to help you experience less fear and anxiety while applying them. This past Wednesday’s Coastside CERT Great ShakeIn Part 1 caused me the greatest amount of stress and anxiety I have suffered in a long time. Having never hosted on Zoom, the fear of deleting the event or having the link fail was high. When I started the event a little early and Chief Lord could not log in I hit level 1 of panic mode (this is where all the contents in your body remain in place but you feel them wanting to come out!). Lucky for me Chief Lord was not stressed and calmly pointed to the button that said “Broadcast!” Here is the link to the Part 1 meeting recording.

Join us on Tuesday, May 19, 6:30 PM-7:30 PM PDT when Coastside CERT and the Earthquake Country Alliance will host Part 2 of the Coastside Great ShakeIN – – The Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety, Earthquake Early Warning and the UC Berkeley MyShake App. We will again be joined by our friends from South Coast CERT, Kings Mountain, and South Skyline CERT. We also will have new friends from Los Altos PREPARES and Santa Clara County CERTs.
The Seven Steps to Earthquake Safety: Mark Benthien is Director for Communication, Education, and Outreach for the Southern California Earthquake Center at the University of Southern California where he works to increase earthquake and tsunami awareness and to reduce loss. Mark is also Executive Director of the Earthquake Country Alliance, which organizes the annual Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill. He was recognized as a White House “Champion of Change” for expanding ShakeOut participation worldwide (2019: 68 million people in 75 countries).

The California Great Shake-Out on October 15th, 2020
Coastside CERT needs to start preparing for The California Great Shake-Out on October 15th of this year. https://www.shakeout.org/california/faq/ In preparation and with our newfound love of home and remote learning, Coastside CERT and the Earthquake Country Alliance will present 2 different 1hr segments of the Coastside Great Shake-IN!
