The San Mateo County Sheriff is responsible for overseeing patrolling, correctional facilities, security for the court system, the homeland security division, and the civil department. This position primarily serves as a top law enforcement official for the whole county.

 

Featuring: Carlos Bolanos, current Sheriff of San Mateo County; Christina Corpus, Chief of Police Services for the City of Millbrae.

 

 

Thrive, in partnership with other nonprofits, will be hosting a series of candidate forums to elevate the most pressing issues of nonprofits and their communities in San Mateo County.

Carlos was born and raised in San Francisco and has spent his entire life in the Bay Area. His parents emigrated to the U.S. from Nicaragua, and he is a first-generation Nicaraguan American. In 2007, he was appointed as Undersheriff of San Mateo County and served in that role until 2016, when he was appointed and subsequently elected Sheriff of San Mateo County. Throughout his career, Carlos has embraced and understood the importance of the Community Policing philosophy and its role in effective policing. He believes that building relationships and developing partnerships with our community members is the key to effective policing.

christina

Christina Corpus is the daughter of immigrants from Nicaragua and Mexico. Corpus was born and raised in the Bay Area, where she has lived her entire life. Serving the public was a rewarding experience. Christina quickly realized that law enforcement was how she wished to grow as a professional and inspire young women who looked like her. Corpus later became the Commander of Bayside Patrol. She managed the Community Policing Unit, the School Resource Unit, Field Training Unit, K-9 Unit, Motor Unit, and the Sheriff’s Activities League program. When she was promoted to Captain, she oversaw the Bayside Patrol Bureau. Recently, she became Chief of Police Services for the City of Millbrae.
