TasteTV is happy to announce that the 6th Annual World Dog Surfing Championships will still take place in 2021, however with some changes.

The Annual World Dog Surfing Championships take place on the Northern California coast, bringing together the best in local and international dog surfing talent. Top dog surfers as well as amateurs are invited to bring home the gold.

Due to the increased spread of the Delta variant and its increased level of transmission — even at certain types of outdoors events where crowds are in close contact — we must postpone the live in-person portion of the 2021 World Dog Surfing Championships scheduled to take place in Pacifica on August 28th until large live events in California are safer for all involved.

The World Dog Surfing Championships are continuing the live streamed multi-location dog surfing heats which take place on October 2nd, plus the pre-recorded dog surfing video competition. This online virtual event reaches a very large and wide audience of dog lovers, surfing lovers, and lifestyle-focused attendees.

HOW TO ENTER

This year’s event consists of two components for surfing and dog fans:

1) Livestreamed Dog Surfing Competition. REGISTER HERE. See page for all details and format.

2) Video & Photo Dog Surfing Awards (Entries Open to the Public Worldwide). REGISTER HERE.

ELIGIBILITY: For those competitors who cannot attend in person or are in far away locales, you can select either the Live Livestreamed competition or the Pre-recorded video and photo competitions, which include

Pre-recorded dog surfing videos from 2021
Dog surfing photographs (from any time or event in 2021)
Dog beach fashion photos (from anywhere)

This is open to entrants from around the world

NOTE: Organizers retain the right to refuse entry of any surfer at any time without dispute, especially for what is widely considered unsportsmanlike behavior or unkind treatment of a surf dog.

Unfortunately due to the new delta variant going around, the World Dog Surfing Championship has been canceled!

A virtual surf championship is going to be postponed until some time in September.

The World Championships for Dog Surfing take place on the Northern California coast — where the concept for the dog surfing sport originated — bringing together the best in local and international dog surfing talent. The world’s top dog surfers as well as amateurs are invited to bring home the gold.

Top dog surfers as well as happy amateurs are invited to bring home the Golden Surfie Medal. During the event there will be a number of activities including the surf competition, dog beach fashion contest, dog adoptions, partner tents and activities, and more.

NEW AWARD CATEGORIES: For those competitors who cannot attend live in-person or are in far away locales, there are new Virtual award categories this year for pre-recorded dog surfing videos and photographs, as well as doggy beach fashion photos. This will be open to surfers and dog lovers from around the world. See site shortly for more details.

Mask wearing is not required but encouraged for the enjoyment and safety of all involved.

The Dog Surfing Championships will be live and in person, with safety and health protocols that follow State and County guidelines and requirements.

The World Championships seek to adhere to the standard rules utilized by dog surf competitions across the globe. We do this in order to have the same general rules and expectations across events.

This year’s event consists of two components for surfing and dog fans:

2) Virtual Dog Surfing Competition (Entries Open to the Public Worldwide)

Both Live and Virtual components are FREE TO ATTEND or VIEW to Anyone.

SURFING COMPETITION:

$25 Dog Entrant per Heat Category (Dog Size based Heats, Tandem Heats, etc)

*Humans without Dog not allowed to enter Surfing Competition
*Dogs can only enter in one Size or Weight-based contest category

IMPORTANT: Entries to the Live In-Person Dog Surfing Competition are By Invitation Only. Please contact Organizers for details or to request an Invitation.

Dog Weight Categories for Surfing Heats:

Small Dog Surfing Heat – 1-20 pound dog
Medium Dog Surfing Heat – 21-40 pound dog
Large Dog Surfing Heat – 41-60 pound dog
Very Large Dog Surfing Heat – 61 pound or more dog
Tandem Dogs Surfing Heat – multiple dogs, any size
Tandem Human/Dog Surfing Heat – 1 human and 1 dog, any size

NEW AWARD CATEGORIES: For those competitors who cannot attend in person or are in far away locales, there will also be award categories this year for pre-recorded dog surfing videos and photographs. This will be open to surfers, etc. from around the world

This includes any images and videos from social media, personal, as well as professional or editorial

These award competitions of the World Championships are open to any surfer or dog lover around the world
