1st Annual “Make It Main Street” First Thursdays in Half Moon Bay July-Nov.

November 4th, 2021 @ 3:00pm - 7:00pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every month that begins at 3:00pm on day First of the month, repeating until November 4th, 2021

Hispanic-American Heritage Month begins on September 15, so we are focusing this Make It Main Street accordingly. In addition to galleries, bookstores, wine-bars, eateries and businesses open later than usual, MIMS will feature a traditional pottery making demonstration in the bustling Makers’ Marketplace, multilingual readers taking the stage at Speakers’ Space, and live music in several locations, including a chamber trio, a mariachi-influenced trio and local singer-songwriters, and several short folklorico dance & music performances throughout the evening. Stroll the 300-700 blocks of Main Street in downtown Half Moon Bay and discover something new about the hidden talents and passions of the people in our community. Or, sign up for a 10 minute time-slot at Speakers’ Space in Mac Dutra Park and tell your story (or a story you love), read a poem or essay to an engaged and interested audience.

We are honored to host the screen debut of Strength: Documenting the Asylum Seeker, a film by Oscar Guerra during September’s Make It Main Street. Dr Belinda Arriaga, founder of ALAS is a force behind the film along with local journalism entrepenuer Richard Klein (full disclosure, he chairs the board of directors of Coastside News Group, publishers of the Half Moon Bay Review) as is the Coastal Literary Arts Movement (CLAM).

Expect a lively Q&A between screenings during Speakers’ Space at Mac Dutra Park. Find out more by visting Make It Main Street HMB, and coming to Downtown Half Moon Bay on The First Thursday of the Month.

Movies on Main Street

ODDFELLOWS HALL – 526 MAIN STREET

1ST THURSDAYS, JULY – NOVEMBER

Make It Main Street Movies will screen a locally made film, and feature Q&A sessions with the filmmakers, producers and/or other associated principals. Screenings are free to the public, register below to reserve your seat. Times of screenings will vary.

November is American Indian Heritage Month.

Make It Main Street Movies presents Gather at 5:00PM and 6:30PM the Oddfellows Hall, followed by a lively panel discussion.

Gather is an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.

Gather follows Nephi Craig, a chef from the White Mountain Apache Nation (Arizona), opening an indigenous café as a nutritional recovery clinic; Elsie Dubray, a young scientist from the Cheyenne River Sioux Nation (South Dakota), conducting landmark studies on bison; and the Ancestral Guard, a group of environmental activists from the Yurok Nation (Northern California), trying to save the Klamath river.
